Automations that watch contacts, not forms
Start an automation when a contact joins a list, when a property changes, or when a contact is created.
Not everything begins with a form. Contacts move between lists, statuses change, records get created by an import or by you. Automations can watch for any of that.
What you can watch
- •A contact joining a list — the natural start for a welcome sequence.
- •A contact property changing — status becoming Customer, a score crossing a number, a field getting filled in.
- •A contact being created — however they arrived, whether from a form, an import, or by hand.
Setting one up
- 1Create a new automation and pick the contact trigger you want.
- 2Choose the list, or the property and the change you care about — became a particular value, changed at all, went above a number.
- 3Add the steps. Contact automations usually email the contact, update them, or hand them to another app.
Pro tip
Combine them. A form adds the person to a list; a list automation sends the welcome; a property automation notices when they become a customer and stops the welcome sequence from looking silly.
Important
Be careful with an automation that changes the same property it is watching — you can talk yourself into a loop. The builder warns you when a path can come back to itself with nothing to stop it.
