Choosing a form layout: One at a time vs Single page

Pick between the Typeform-style carousel and the Google-Forms-style single-page layout — and learn when each works best.

Every Spiceform form supports two layouts. The choice doesn't change which questions you can use — it only changes how respondents see and move through them. You can switch between the two at any time without losing answers, themes, or logic.

One at a time (default)

The classic Typeform-style experience: each question takes up the full screen and the form auto-advances after the respondent answers. Best for surveys, lead capture, quizzes, and any form where you want to keep focus on a single question and minimize abandonment.

  • •Auto-advance after Yes/No, Multiple Choice, Picture Choice, NPS, and Opinion Scale answers.
  • •Full-screen attachments (split layouts and background images) work as expected.
  • •Logic jumps with destination questions are fully supported.
  • •Conversational, distraction-free feel.

Single page (Google Forms style)

Every question is rendered on a single scrolling page with one Submit button at the bottom. Best for short forms, internal/team forms, RSVP, simple intake forms, and anything respondents prefer to scan before answering.

  • •Respondents see the entire form at a glance and can answer in any order.
  • •Validation runs only when they click Submit — invalid required fields are highlighted and the page scrolls to the first one.
  • •Auto-save still runs in the background (debounced) so partial responses are captured.
  • •Calculation rules (variable updates) still fire on every change.

How to switch layouts

  1. 1Open any form in the builder.
  2. 2At the very top of the canvas, find the "Layout" segmented control.
  3. 3Click "One at a time" or "Single page" — the change is saved automatically.
  4. 4Open Preview to see exactly how respondents will experience the new layout.
Pro tip

You can also pick the layout up front when creating a new form from the Dashboard — the "Form layout" picker sits right under the AI prompt. The AI builder also understands phrases like "Google Forms style" and "on one page", and will set the layout for you.

Important caveat: Logic jumps and Single page

Important

Destination jumps ("if X, jump to question 5") have nothing to skip to when every question is already on screen, so they're paused while a form is in Single page mode. Your rules are kept exactly as you wrote them and re-activate the moment you switch back to One at a time. Calculation/variable actions are not affected — they still run in both modes.

Question types not supported on Single page

A few question types own their own dedicated screen because they handle their own progression (redirects, embedded widgets, multi-turn flows). They're disabled on Single page forms with a small inline banner explaining the situation:

  • •Payment — redirects to Stripe / PayPal checkout.
  • •Calendly — uses an embedded widget that fires its own "booked" callback.
  • •Clarify AI — runs a multi-step AI follow-up flow per question.

If your form needs any of these, switch to One at a time. You can always switch back later.
