Signature question
Collect legally valid electronic signatures directly in your form with type, draw, or upload options.
The Signature question makes it easy to collect legally valid electronic signatures right within your form, no need to send respondents to a separate tool. Whether you're gathering signed agreements, consent forms, or service contracts, this feature keeps the entire process seamless.
Respondents will have the option to type, draw, or upload their signature on the form.
- •Type — The respondent types their full name and it's displayed in a signature-style font.
- •Draw — The respondent uses their mouse or touchscreen to draw their signature.
- •Upload — The respondent uploads an image of their signature (up to 10 MB).
Each signed submission is stored securely within your account, locked to prevent edits, and can be downloaded as a PDF for your records.
The Signature question is available on the Hot, Fire, and Inferno plans.
How to add a Signature question
- 1Open an existing form or create a new one and click + Add Content.
- 2Select Signature from the Other question types section in the sidebar.
- 3Type your question in the placeholder field, and optionally add a description. We recommend letting respondents know what you are collecting their signature for.
- 4In the Question settings on the right, toggle Allow typing, Allow drawing, and Allow uploading on or off.
- 5Toggle the Required setting on or off. By default, the Signature question is required.
- 6Click Share / Publish to make your form live.
We recommend placing the Signature question at the end of your form, as respondents should review all questions before signing.
Respondent experience
Respondents can click Type, Draw, or Upload to sign the form. When typing, their name is displayed in a signature-style cursive font. When drawing, they use their mouse or touchscreen and can clear and redo. When uploading, they select an image file (up to 10 MB).

FAQ
- •Is the e-signature legally binding? — Yes, generally speaking. It applies when the intent to sign is clear and the context allows for a basic electronic signature to be legally valid. Consult a legal professional if unsure.
- •Can I use it for contracts? — Yes, for most common business agreements (NDAs, service agreements, freelance contracts, consent forms, etc.).
- •How many Signature questions can I add? — We recommend only adding 1 per form. Multiple signatures will be recorded but only a single PDF is generated.
- •Can I edit a signed response? — No, once a response is signed and submitted, it cannot be changed to ensure integrity.
- •What file format is the signed document? — A flattened PDF containing the full form, all responses, and the signature.
The Signature question should not be used for real estate transactions, wills, court filings, notarized documents, or any document that explicitly requires a handwritten signature in your jurisdiction.
