WhatsApp: share your form and send messages
Share a form to any WhatsApp chat from the Share tab, and send automatic WhatsApp messages through Zapier or Make.
Spiceform does not send WhatsApp messages itself. You can share a form on WhatsApp from your own phone or computer in a couple of clicks, and if you want a message to go out automatically after each response, Zapier or Make can do that through a WhatsApp provider.
Sharing a form on WhatsApp
- 1Publish the form, then open the Share tab in the builder.
- 2Click "WhatsApp". You get a ready message with the form's title, how long it takes, and the link.
- 3Edit the message if you like, then click "Open WhatsApp" and pick the chat or group to send it to.
The link in that message is tagged, so views that come from it are counted as WhatsApp in the weekly breakdown on the Results tab. WhatsApp does not tell the form where a visitor came from, so an untagged link pasted into a chat shows up as "Direct".
What the link preview shows
WhatsApp shows a preview card under the link. By default it is the Spiceform card. In the Share tab, under Link preview, you can switch it to a card made from your form: its title, the number of questions and the fill time, your theme colours, and your logo and welcome image if you have them. On the Hot plan and above you can also set your own image, title and description.
WhatsApp remembers the preview of a link it has already shown. A change to the preview appears on links you send after the change.
Sending WhatsApp messages automatically
To message each respondent, or yourself, when a response arrives, connect the form to Zapier or Make and add a WhatsApp provider as the next step. You need an account with that provider, and for messages to respondents the provider will ask you to set up a WhatsApp Business number and an approved message template.
- 1In Zapier, create a Zap with "Webhooks by Zapier" → "Catch Hook" as the trigger. In Make, create a scenario that starts with a custom webhook. Copy the webhook URL.
- 2In Spiceform, open the Connect tab, choose Zapier or Make, paste the URL and save.
- 3Submit a test response so Zapier or Make can see the fields.
- 4Add the WhatsApp step: in Zapier, Twilio ("Send WhatsApp Message") or WATI ("Send Template Message"); in Make, "WhatsApp Business Cloud" ("Send a Template Message").
- 5Map the recipient to your phone question under formatted_answers. Spiceform stores phone answers in international format with the country code, such as +14155550123.
Just want a WhatsApp alert for yourself when someone responds? Zapier's WhatsApp Notifications app sends messages to your own number only, and needs no business account.
Only message people who agreed to hear from you on WhatsApp. Add a consent question to the form, and use a filter step in Zapier or Make so only respondents who said yes get a message.
